Iron Maiden, Knebworth 2026: cover artwork

My rating what's this?

An 8.5 for a recording that puts the band in unusual close-up, held back by a flat, narrow sound stage and a crowd that barely registers.

Step 1 of 4. What you're looking at

This is a bootleg, not the official live album. The actual night itself, recorded from inside the crowd, with the mistakes and the roar left in. This is the concert as it really sounded, before anyone cleaned it up.

// The bootleg

The bass is very clearly audible, the guitars are well separated and the vocals come through cleanly. The drums sit a little further back. The sound is somewhat flat and not very spacious, but everything is nicely audible.

There is not much crowd in the mix, and that costs the recording some of that bootleg atmosphere. That is why it gets an 8.5, despite how well you can hear the band.

// The night

EddFest was Iron Maiden's own two-day festival at Knebworth Park on 10 and 11 July 2026. The band closed the Saturday main stage after The Almighty, Airbourne, The Hu and The Darkness, with around 50,000 people on site in temperatures well over 30C. The night also carried unfinished business. On 22 June in Paris, at a La Défense Arena show filmed for a cinematic release, a total power cut near the end of '2 Minutes to Midnight' stopped everything, and the night ended without the encores that have closed every show on this tour: 'Aces High', 'Fear of the Dark' and 'Wasted Years'. What Paris cost the film was that footage, so the band came to Knebworth to complete it, and setlist.fm notes this show was professionally filmed and recorded for the tour film. 'Infinite Dreams' was the one change from last year's setlist, and Bruce Dickinson told the crowd it was the first time in 38 years before correcting himself about a Lisbon show days earlier. He joked about the football match kicking off during the show, and carried the Union Jack and then the St George's flag through 'The Trooper'. It was Iron Maiden's only UK concert of the year, and the promoters billed it as their last UK show until at least 2028.

The rating

The rating is mine, and it is the only quality mark here. The number from 1 to 10 next to a recording is my own listening judgement: how much I enjoy putting it on, everything weighed together.

I do not hand out an "objective" grade, because nobody can grade a live recording objectively. One collector's ears are not another's.

A tape can be clean and still rate lower if it leaves me cold, or rate high in spite of its flaws because it captures the night. Higher means I reach for it more often.

Take it as one ear, then trust your own.
